CSA Tip: Driver Fitness

  • Friday, September 23, 2011

The third basic in the CSA program is titled driver fitness.

Driver fitness does not refer to how old a person is, how much they weigh, or how large their neck is. The primary focus of this basic is does the driver have a valid medical card and appropriately endorsed CDL ready to present to the office conducting the inspection.

As a commercial driver you don’t want violations under the driver fitness basic on your CSA record, it refers to you being a qualified driver.

Pre-trip yourself, make sure your medical card is valid, that you have it on your person, and you meet any restrictions listed on your medical card or CDL. If you don’t meet the necessary requirements, you will be placed out of service by the DOT, and points will be assigned to your CSA record.
