Slip & Fall Prevention

Winter weather creates the perfect conditions for slips and falls.
In the trucking industry, winter ice and snow slip and fall injuries account for 1/3 of all workers' comp claims.

So, to help avoid injury when walking on ice and snow, here are some simple tips:

  • Take the safest route to your destination, and take your time.
  • Don’t use your smartphone while walking—it’s distracting.
  • Walk deliberately. Bend your knees a little and take slow, short steps. Doing so increases traction and lowers the odds of falling.
  • Wear boots or other slip-resistant footwear.
  • Wear traction aids when conditions warrant their use.
  • Watch for "black ice” or hard packed snow which can be just as slippery.
  • Use caution when getting in and out of vehicles, and use the vehicle for support.
  • Please use “Three Points of Contact” at all times!
  • When walking on steps or ramps, always use the hand railings and plant your feet firmly on each step.
  • When entering a building, remove as much snow from your boots as you can, and watch for wet and slippery floors.

Safety, it’s a full time job…don’t make it a part time practice
